Farmway is a farmer controlled business, formed on the 1st of December 1964 by the amalgamation of 3 co-operatives, Teesside Farmers, Northern Farmers and East Yorkshire Farmers. The traditional business is the production of animal feeds, processing and dressing of cereal seeds and the sale and supply of fertilisers, the drying storage and marketing of grain as well as the supply of a wide range of agricultural sundries.
Over the past years Farmway has developed its business by, organic growth, the formation of joint venture organisations and diversification into Rural Retailing.
Grain Marketing is now transacted through GrainCo, which is the largest Grain Trading organisation in the North of England, and also trades throughout Scotland.
The Piercebridge feed mill is now operated by FeedCo, a joint venture organisation with Lloyds Animal Feeds Ltd. The mill now produces in excess of 80,000 tonnes of animal feeds annually.
Strategic acquisitions have taken place over the past 5 years, including the purchase of Hallshaw Farm Supplies, Yorkshire Animal Health, Cheviot Farmers and an investment in Hadrian Farm Services.
Over the past 5 years, Farmway has diversified into Rural Retailing. From the 9 strategically located depots Farmway now offers farmers and country dwellers a comprehensive range of products. Pet and Equine Supplies, Clothing and Footwear, Household, Gifts, Pest Control as well as Agricultural Sundries.
