If you are new to Niger seed feeding then I urge you to get this seed feeder. I started out with a feeder that had no tray and found that the goldfinches and other birds dropped more than they ate! This can leave a lot of black mulchy mess in your garden but this feeder with the tray bottom helps contain the seeds. Birds can sit around the edge of the tray and there is also a good distance between the tray and the perches to ensure that birdy bickering doesn't occur! Easy to open and close too and the materials feel sturdy so it's long lasting.
